As Chair of the PTA, I am always on the lookout for new ways to raise money which don’t take hours of organisation and don’t place too much of a burden on our main donors, the parents at the school. We are a small Infant school with 180 children on role so we don’t have a massive base of parents to draw on and while they are mostly supportive, everyone is busy and volunteers can be hard to come by.
Which is why I was very excited when I came across easyfundraising.co.uk. Everyone shops online these days so this is a fantastic, easy way for us to raise money without any effort. It only took a few minutes to set up and costs the parents nothing more than the few extra seconds to click through the link. There is a quick start guide with helpful tips and a bank of templates with posters, flyers and emails all ready to promote the link- so the hard work is all done for you! Timesavers like this are a real bonus when there are always so many other things to do. Easyfundraising and it’s users have already raised £19 million of donations for good causes and it is easy to see how when it is so simple to set up and use.
So How Does It Work?
It is basically a portal through which you click into the retailer you want to shop with and a donation is raised each time, usually a small percentage of the total spend, at no additional cost to the shopper. Retailers give a commission for each purchase and easyfundraising turn that into a donation. I was impressed with the range of retailers who are part of the scheme including the major supermarkets, big department stores, travel companies and online giants like Amazon and EBay. In fact there are over 3,200 retailers on the site so there is definitely something for everyone.
Even Easier With The App
I have downloaded the EasyFundraising mobile app which was very simple to do through the AppStore. This makes clicking through to my favourite retailers even easier, with my favourite retailers at the top to make them easier to find.
I’ll be doing all my online Christmas shopping through the app this year, and I love that I can #GiveMoreThanAGift while buying my Christmas gifts. I’ve only bought one Christmas present so far (because I’ve been too busy organising the Christmas Fayre!) but I have already generated a donation of 95p just from that one purchase.
The app tracks how much you have raised individually and the total raised for your cause, which is a nice feature. There is even a leaderboard for the competitive out there!
We’ve only set it up a couple of weeks ago and just sent out the letters to parents with the information about it so we’re yet to see any huge rush of donations but hopefully the little and often donations each time people shop online will soon add up.
